Also in 1995 the first Grammy award for best R&B album started and Boyz II Men won. Through the 1990's R&B artists and groups from this same period began adding more of a hip-hop sound to their work resulting in a genre labeled hip hop soul. By the 2000's differences between R&B and hip hop soul had increased, mainstream modern R&B has a sound more based on rhythm than hip hop soul had. In 2004, all 12 songs that topped Billboard Hot 100 were African-American recording artists and accounted for 80% of the number one R&B hits that year. Genre Choice: R&B
Contemporary R&B known as R&B began in the 1980's as the disco era came to a close, it originates from traditional blues music but has elements of pop, hip hop and electronic music. Today the term R&B is most often used to describe a style of African-American music originating after the demise of disco in the 1980s.

Cohens moral panic

Chris Brown is an example of this on this magazine, some people believe he should not be publicised for what he done to Rihanna and he is a 'Folk Devil". A 'Folk devil' is a person or group of people who are portrayed in the media as a bad role model.

Feminism
In this blog post I will be analysing a magazine cover whilst talking about feminism in media. I will also explain why Blender chose this front cover and who it would be aimed at.

Feminism The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
Laura Mulvey's says that, patriarchy is a form of society ruled by men through the figure of the father, and therefore men dominate the media so it is construct for them as an audience. Laura says that this is the male gaze.
This is the music magazine that i will be analysing, the magazine is called Blender with a image of Katy Perry on the front. The fact that she's not wearing much clothing and is posing provocatively makes the magazine target audience seem male. Magazines that have women on the front cover use 'male gaze' to increase sales among males.
The magazine want Katy to be the main attraction on the front cover. They do this by putting her in the middle of the page and there is no other distractions to take the attraction away from her. Another reason why she is the main attraction is that apart from the title of the magazine her name is in the biggest writing.
